Final Day of Laser Radial Youth Worlds

Day 6 of the Laser Radial Youth Worlds presented high winds, and racing was cancelled for the day. The prize giving and closing ceremonies were held at 1400 at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour Restaurant.

In the female division Mária Érdi, Hungary, is 1st overall, after winning 6 of the 10 races at the regatta. Dolores IMG_5758Moreira, Uruguay finishes in 2nd, and also placed 1st in the under 17 category. Magdalena Kwasna, Poland, finishes in 3rd, with Francesca Bergamo, Italy, in 4th and Carolina Albano, Italy in 5th.

In the male division, Conor Nicholas, Australia, holds his lead throughout IMG_5774the regatta to place 1st overall. Italian Gianmarco Planchestainer, finishes in 2nd place. Nic Baird, United States, finishes in 3rd, with Paolo Giargia, Italy in 4th and Umberto José Varbaro, Italy, in 5th. Finnian Alexander, Australia, finishes 6th, and Jack Cookson, Great Britain, finishes in 7th. Bernie Chin Singapore, finishes 8th overall, and is the top finisher under 17 years of age. Henry Marshall United States and Jamie Calder, Great Britain, finish 9th and 10th respectively.

Day 5 of the Radial Youth World Championships

Day 5 of the Radial Youth World Championships in Kingston Canada. Three races were completed by all fleets today, with winds beginning at 15 knots, and lowering throughout the day.
In the male division, Conor Nicholas, Australia, holds onto his lead for the 5th consecutive day. Italian Gianmarco IMG_3556Planchestainer, sits in 2nd place and will be fighting for the top spot on the podium tomorrow, as Planchestainer is only one point behind Nicholas. Nic Baird, United States, moves up to 3rd, with Paolo Giargia, Italy in 4th and Umberto José Varbaro, Italy, in 5th.
In the female division, regatta leader Mária Érdi, Hungary, holds a strong lead going into the final day of racing. Dolores Moreira, Uruguay sits in 2nd, with Magdalena Kwasna, Poland, in 3rd.
Tomorrow is the final day of racing with two races scheduled and the first signal at 1130. Award Presentations and Closing Ceremonies will be held at 1900 at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour Restaurant tomorrow night.

Day 4 of the Laser Radial Youth World Championships

Day 4 of the Laser Radial Youth World Championships. Competitors completed one race today, the second scheduled race was cancelled due to low winds. Today was the last day of qualifying series, and tomorrow marks the first day of final series racing.

In the male division, Australia’s Conor Nicholas holds onto his lead for the fourth day in a row, placing 5th in today’s race. Nicholas sits only 3 points ahead of 2nd place, Gianmarco Planchestainer of Italy, who received a bullet in IMG_2470 (2)today’s race. Canadian Matti Muru continues to climb the leader board, moving into 3rd overall. Umberto José Varbaro, Italy, now now sits in 4th, with Italian team mate Paolo Giargia in 5th.

Mária Érdi of Hungary continues to lead the female division. Dolores Moreira, Uruguay is tight on Érdi’s tail, sitting only 2 points behind in 2nd. Italian Francesca Bergamo moves up to 3rd after today’s race. Following IMG_2956 (2)Bergamo is Magdalena Kwasna Poland, and Carolina Albano Italy, in 4th and 5th respectively.

The male division flights will now be split into fleets of gold, silver and bronze. The gold fleet will consist of 48 competitors, and the silver and bronze fleets will consist of 47 competitors each. Racing continues daily until August 20th, with prize giving and closing ceremonies held at Portsmouth Olympic harbour following the final day’s racing.
