Laser Radial Youth Worlds Day 3

Day 3 of the Laser Radial Youth World Championships! Another great day for sailing in Kingston, with 11 knots of wind from the South West and blue skies. All flights completed race 5 and race 6 as scheduled, with the male division still split into three flights for qualifying series.

Australia’s Conor Nicholas holds his lead in the male division for the third day in a row. Nicholas placed 2,2, today, securing a 6 point lead from 2nd place Paolo Giargia of Italy who finished 2,4, today. Gianmarco Planchestainer, Italy, moves up to 3rd, placing 4,1, and is tied in points with Umberto José Varbaro, Italy. Varbaro lost the tie IMG_7112breaker and sits in 4th. Only 2 nett points behind the tie break is Canadian Matti Muru in 5th who placed 1,3, in today’s races. IMX_17519 (2)

In the female division, Hungarian Mária Érdi continues to lead the fleet. Érdi sits with a strong lead of 12 points off 2nd, placing 1,1, today. Dolores Moreira, Uruguay remains in 2nd, placing 10,2, today. Magdalena Kwasna, Poland, placed 3,5, today, moving up to 3rd. Francesca Bergamo, Italy, sits in 4th, with Gabriella Kidd, Brazil, in 5th.

Sailing continues tomorrow with 2 races scheduled. Racing continues daily until August 20th, with the first signal scheduled for 1130. The prize giving will be held August 20th at 1900 at the Portsmouth Olympic harbour restaurant

Day 2 of the Laser Radial Youth World Championships

Day 2 of the Laser Radial Youth World Championships. 195 Sailors hit the water this morning with 6 knots of breeze. After a short postponement while the wind picked up and steadied, all fleets were off with 8-10 knots of breeze from the South West. All sailors completed two races, and are scheduled for another two tomorrow.

In the male division, Australia’s Conor Nicholas continues to lead the fleet overall. Nicholas placed 23, 1, today,IMG_7504 dropping his 23, to stand with a nett of 5 points. He is followed by Italian Umberto José Varbaro, who placed 1,6 in today’s races. Varbaro dropped his 6, to sit 2 points behind Nicholas at 7 nett points. Ismael Iess Falcón, Spain, moved up to third overall, placing 1,5, in today’s races, with Paolo Giargia, Italy, moving down to 4th, after placing 5,22, today. Roberto Pollara, Italy, moves up to 5th overall with a 6,3, today, followed by Gianmarco Planchestainer, Italy, in 6th, who placed 4,1, today. Canadian Matti Muru moved up to 7th, with a result of 7,3, today. Nic Baird, United States, now sits in 8th overall, with Alexis Mégevand, Switzerland, in 9th and Philippe Pasquin, Canada, in 10th.

IMG_8337    In the female division, Mária Érdi, Hungary, continues to lead. Érdi placed 12,1, today, and dropped her first race of the day to sit with 3 nett points. Close on Érdi’s tail is Dolores Moreira, Uruguay, who placed 1,2, in today’s races. Francesca Bergamo, Italy, moved up to 3rd, placing 5,3, today. Magdalena Kwasna, Poland, moved up to 4th, with Carly Broussard, United States, moving down to 5th.

Sailing continues tomorrow with 2 races scheduled. Following tomorrows racing is the competitor and coach dinner at the Kingston Yacht Club. Racing continues daily until August 20th, with the first warning scheduled for 1130.

Laser Radial Youth World Championships Day 1

First day of the Laser Radial Youth World Championships in Kingston, Canada. A beautiful day to start world championship racing on Kingston waters, with 8-12 knots of south west breeze and sunny blue skies. 197 competitors under the age of 19 representing 36 nations completed 2 races as scheduled. The male fleet has 142 competitors, and they have been split into 3 flights of blue, red, and yellow. The female division has 53 sailors, all sailing in the same flight.

In the female division, Mária Érdi, Hungary, leads the fleet, winning race 1 and race 2 today. Érdi was followed in race 1IMG_5707 by Dolores Moreira, Uruguay, and Carly Broussard, United States, in 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the second race Magdalena Kwasna, Poland, finished in 2nd. Overall Érdi HUN is in 1st, followed by Moreira URU in 2nd and Kwasna POL in 3rd.

In the Blue flight Justin Vittecoq, Canada, placed 1st in the first race, followed by William Marshall, United States, and Francisco Guaragna Rigonat, Argentina. The second race, Francesco Piro, Italy, finished 1st, with Maor Ben Harosh, Isreal, in 2nd and Joseph Hou, United States, in 3rd. Vittecoq CAN finished 5th in race 2, putting him in 3rd overall.

In the Red Flight, Conor Nicholas, Australia, lead the first race, followed by Nic Baird, United States. Umberto José Varbaro, Italy, placed 1st in race 2, with Alexandre Boite, France, in 2nd and Australia’s Conor Nicholas in 3rd. Nicholas AUS now sits in 1st overall, with Varbaro ITA in 4th overall.IMG_4945

In the Yellow Flight Paolo Giargia, Italy, won the first race of the day, followed by George Gautrey, New Zealand. Philippe Pasquin, Canada, placed 1st in the race 2, followed by Roberto Pollara, Italy in 2nd, Luis Cabrera Pérez, Spain in 3rd and Giargia, Italy, in 4th. Giargia ITA finished the day in 2nd overall.

Racing continues daily until August 20th, with the first signal at 1130. All are looking forward to another great day of racing tomorrow with two races scheduled.
